| Hi, Go for it guys...personally, being an old f.... I like playing the harmony parts!! If your band does Holst's First Suite make sure you take your cornet..its much, much better than the trumpet part and (to me) sounds 300% better on cornet. Have fun. Regards Trevor PS Seth's right. Get yourself a DW or a Sparks and sing your head off!! |

| Fortissimo User | And...do NOT get "put off" by the "old farts" who own the 1st and 2nd chairs. Get a bunch of 3rd players together, form a little brass, trumpet, or cornet choir, and then BLOW THEIR DOORS OFF during intermissions and "around and about town" (Christmas is a great time.. so is Easter... and who says you can't just pop on down to the park in the summer for an hour or two of entertaining the kids?). The conductor and the rest of the band will get the message right quick. In my experience, playing your best at whatever part you are given and demonstrating that you aren't going to be content to sit in a 3rd chair for the rest of their lives is what will move you up faster than anything. If there is any one thing a community band hierarchy pays attention to, it is DEDICATION. |
