![]() | Re: etherna by getzen In Nov of 1969 I got my Getzen Eterna 909G. This is the gold plated, hand engraved edition that was sold as Doc's personal model. He was to have played and chosen each of these horns prior to them being gold plated and engraved. I understand that Getzen made about two of these per year during the period that Doc was with them the first time. Snooky Young had one and can be seen on You Tube playing Lil Darlin. I've played a lot of good horns over the years but none are better than this one. It plays as good today as it did 38 years ago. A friend of mine is always wanting to buy it from me and my response is always the same ... "you don't have enough money". For many reasons this horn is priceless to me. The Eternas are killer horns and are a great value whether new or vintage.

| New Friend | Re: etherna by getzen Hi! I'm playing an eterna Severinsen model right now, too. Mine's from 1968 and it's got a four digit serial number that starts with a "4", but I don't remember the last three digits right now. It plays beautifully and I have no plans on trading or selling it! |

![]() | Re: etherna by getzen I played a Getzen Eterna Severinson model in the seventies and eighties. Good horn, fine quality. Traded it for something along the way but I was never unhappy. ![]() | Re: etherna by getzen I have an ML Doc from about the same vintage. Very pleasant horn to play. Good intonation. Easy blow. It's IMHO kind of blendy. What I mean is that it is real comfortable amongst other horns in a section. Doesn't seem to jump out too hard. I've heard rumors that the LB Docs from that period are total kick-ass horns, but I haven't played one yet. The ML's in good condition don't go too dear on eBay these days. Late 4's into the 5's usually. The LB's go as high as the early 1k's. |

![]() | Re: etherna by getzen Funny that no one's mentioned the 700S, the 'intermediate horn' that Getzen puts out. I've had mine since 1990 and it still sings. A tad brittle up top, but with the right mpc it mellows out, and with a larger pc, it's downright buttery. I've passed it to my young son, but every once in a while, I pick it up to find that sound again. What an underrated horn. ![]() ![]() | Re: etherna by getzen Another mention needs to go to the new 907S Eterna Proteus. That is the latest addition to the Eterna line. Where the 900 Eterna was designed to be a lead/jazz horn, the Proteus is meant to be a better all around horn with a richer, fuller sound. So far everyone that has tried one loves it. Too bad we have been so far behind that almost none have shipped yet. If you happen to come across one give it a try and let me know what you think. Brett Getzen |

![]() | Re: etherna by getzen My 1975 Eterna Large Bore horn, custom engraved by Sherry Huntley, converted to tuning bell, slides internally champered, plays better than any horn I've ever played(and that's a bunch). Silver plated, gold accents. Valves are straight from Heaven, I've never felt a smoother, lightning fast set of valves in my life, and I can pick it up after not playing it for 6 months and they are still fast....love that Pro Oil synthetic ![]() ![]() I'll post some more on the next post.
