Re: Help me Identify this Holton... (Large photos)

The serial number dates it to 1979 *if* those are Holton valves. It has almost the same engraving on the bell that my T401 has, but that's not saying much. My best guess is that it's a newer Holton body and leadpipe with an older bell soldered on, with a Collegiate, or possibly a Martin, tuning slide. I'm not 110% sure on it though.

Re: Help me Identify this Holton... (Large photos)

I started cleaning it but did not get past the bell yet. that is why the rest of the horn is so clean... everything looked original to me it was all that tarnished red color at one point. I will continue to clean but i was worried the holton would not show through if i polished the bell.

My Idea is to possibly sell it. I want to know what the possible value of the item would be as well... if anyone has ideas...

Re: Help me Identify this Holton... (Large photos)

So that's why it looked older...

The only thing that doesn't look original is the non-matching spit valves. It looks a lot like a Collegiate or possibly Super Collegiate, but it almost looks like what my T401 would look like without bracing and its nickel finish. After looking around for a bit, I've found some Collegiates made without a spit valve on the 3rd valve slide, so it's my best guess that someone put one on there without concern for matching the other one. At some point in time, I *think* Holton took their Collegiate line of trumpets and renamed them T602[possibly insert a letter here]. Since it doesn't have the Collegiate engraving on the bell, it's probably a model made after they did that. I'm not able to get a current reference on this, though, since Holton's website is redirected to something about LeBlanc clarinets...

There are Collegiates on eBay from anywhere to about $50-$275, with a newer one at around $400. If it plays anything like my T602S, I'm sure you'll have no problem selling it. Though they are marketed as "student" horns, mine has no problem keeping up with and outplaying the other people at my high schools' "professional" trumpets.
