How old....

must a horn be before it is considered vintage? Pardon my ignorance on the subject of older horns.

Good question--I think Ebay has devalued that term. But there's no real way to quantify it.

I'd call a 50s horn vintage, but not 60s. Perhaps because I got my first trumpet in the 60s...

Does that make you vintage? (I am in the same boat .. got my first horn in the 60s)

A vintage car is 25 years old and they qualify for special plates in many states.

It is a good question.

25 is a good rule of thumb - I think the cyro guys think it is closer to 30.

But in 20 years I am not going to be calling a mass produced bach strad from the 90's a vintage horn...

Because of this I think we are going to have to alter the use of the word and start calling low production, hard to find horns that are 25 years plus old vintage. Or maybe we should just say anthing before the 80's

Perhaps we should follow similar lines as applied to Veteran/Vintage CARS in the UK. Check this out. http://www.newbury.net/sunbeam/Vintage1.htm
