Re: identifying vintage Olds trumpets

Obviously I'm prejudiced about the brand, but in my opinion of all the Olds horns the Super Recording is the best sounding and the easiest to play. My go to horn used to be the French model, but after I acquired the Super Recording I switched. I also had it relaquered by Robb Stewart and it is beautiful.

An eBay seller says that his Standard model was between the Special and the Super.

What you are missing is that the Standard Model had been discontinued by the time that the Special was introduced. Now, where did the Military Model fit in? I own one and it has become my 'go to horn' for any work that requires brilliance of tone. This is another Olds that fed the tuning slide pipe into the port side of the third valve casing.
