![]() | King Silver Sonic Can some one give me an idea of how much this is worth? For that matter, is anyone interested in buying this? I'm an old trombone player that has tried to play trumpet infrequently at best. The SN on the middle vale is "410969", and underneath that is "DB". I acquired this used King trumpet from a friend back in 1972. It's been pretty much stored in it's case since then. The finish is beat, but there are no dents. The bell is silver plated. The only thing that won't move is the threaded valve cap on the bottom of the middle valve. No doubt that can be freed with the right technique. It's not doing anyone any good being stored. I don't know the value of the horn, but I figure some one here will be able to help. Would a picture help? Thanks |

| Mezzo Piano User | Re: King Silver Sonic Looks like you have a decent trumpet that someone would want. The serial number dates it to 1965 or so, not in the best years of Silversonic horns, according to many. I would go to Ebay and use their advanced search function, closed auctions, to find out what they have been going for if there have been listings of similar vintage horns. I checked ebay and ddin't find any record of auctions involving your vintage horn. You might want to go to the King co site H N White Company Makers of King Band Instruments 1893-1965 to make sure if you have a Silversonic or a Silver Flair. Also , check with www.horn-u-copia and scroll down to the White thread for more info. It would be difficult to judge the value with the factors involved. Pictures would help. You might consider listing it in the Marketplace her or the Trumpetherald site classifieds. I'm sure the forum's King buffs will post on this.

![]() | Re: King Silver Sonic Thanks for all the information. I'll shoot a few pictures and post back this weekend. The engraving on the bell is a little hard to read, but it might say "Super Symphony" followed by "Silver Sonic" in blockier lettering. Definetly NH White. I'm not looking to score big, I just don't want to give it away too cheap. Jon Last edited by russiet@wildblue.net; 05-22-2008 at 04:36 PM. |

![]() | Re: King Silver Sonic You have a King Super 20 Symphony and the bell is Sterling Silver not silver plated. SilverSonic bells were always solid Sterling. The DB refers to Dual Bore. The trumpet has a .458 bore at the second valve and .468 starting at the bell. If the engraving is difficult to read it may have been over buffed by someone trying to either remove the lacquer or polish it for a brighter finish. The lead pipe is also usually Sterling Silver and the rest of the instrument is brass. These were also available with a brass bell and thus would not have SilverSonic engraved on the bell. It should also have a first valve slide ring opposed to a saddle. Harry James played a modified version of this horn with the valves moved forward (balanced model) and a larger bore. I believe his was a .460 - .470 instead of the standard .458 - .468. Value fluctuates depending on condition and vintage (time it was made). Ebay generally has one or more of these from time to time and you can do a history search to find one in similar condition and thus a gage for how much you may be able fetch if you decide to sell. |

![]() | Re: King Silver Sonic Fantastic.! Thanks for the information. When I found this forum yesterday, I knew it was the right place to inquire. The lacquer has lifted off in a couple of small patches over the engraving, making it hard to read. Yes, it does have a first valve slide ring. I also believe the lead pipe is silver as well. Thanks again, Jon |

| Mezzo Piano User | Re: King Silver Sonic Thanks for the photo. Nice horn, as you said. There is one on ebay now, Item 28022895037 that the seller, usedinstrumentwarehouse is asking US $1643.45 or best offer. Finish on this one looks very good. Wish I could afford yours.
