| Ambassadors are pretty damn good as is BUT a high-quality leadpipe will change it from a student horn into a pro one, for all intents and purposes. I agree that the mods ideally are done one at a time, so you can guage what change is doing what...but that's an expensive way to go, shipping-wise. FWIW, mine cost about $800--original horn, all the work, rounded slide, Pilczuk pipe, amados, and shipping. A great value for the money. |

| Forte User | Wow, thats pretty much what I'm wanting with my Olds...... I know from personal experience that leadpipes have A LOT to do with a horn's overall sound (Good or bad), but do bells do something similar? Is it worth the extra $1000 for a blackburn bell? Personally, all signs are pointing to NO.... Van |

| Mezzo Forte User | I dunno. If you feel unsure about it, just wait on that one. Definitely go for the leadpipe, though. Oh, and keep me informed. Turns out my dad decided to buy an Ambassador (about 68 or 69) and become a comeback player. To tally this up for the family, we now have 2 Bach Omegas 1 Holton T602 1 Jupiter absolute crap box 1 1951 Olds Ambassador cornet 1 1949 Olds Studio 1 1969 Olds Ambassador trumpet I think it's getting to an alarming point now! |

| Forte User | I've now decided I want an Eclipse Bell. The whole idea of two tuning slides really gets me going. I've just got to decide what kind of bell.... I don't really care about keeping the bell, since the engraving is halfway gone (The "Dor" part is the only readable part), and hell, I don't really care about keeping an AMBASSADOR in collectible shape (I could get the exact model I have now on ebay on any given day for about $50.00...). What about that new thing with the leadpipes, sleeving it or something? |
