![]() | "Some horns have COLLECTOR value, that is not at all related to PLAYER value (though sometimes the two happily co-exist--for example, Schilke horns)." Do you meen that this horn restorated from 1951 has a COLLECTOR value? It's already 300$ |

![]() | OK--I'll try again. An unrestored, decent, 1951 (for example) Ambassador has some collector value. Lately, and for the foreseeable future, that value will not exceed from about $100 to $200. A decent, RESTORED and IMPROVED 1951 Ambassador will have greatly enhganced PLAYER value. It will not gain that much in collector value. So, no, I'm not saying the horn I linked to has collector value. I'm saying the opposite. It has PLAYER value. Which is what you look for if you want a good horn to play. if you are a collector/investor, you want unmodified, (usually) unrestored trumpets. And you really wouldn't be looking at Ambassadors. Is that clear? |

| Mezzo Forte User | one thing I learned from my Studio, you aren't gonna find a great deal in a day, or month, or whatever. You have to be patient, otherwise, you will get burned. Don't worry about my time, as I'd rather do this than that chem lab report I should be doing. As far as the horns you posted last go, I would go in this order:2,1. Nope, I left 3 out on purpose. I haven't heard much that was good about Bessons, and the Olds Ambassador would probably smoke that horn like a Cuban cigar. The thing that puts number 2 ahead is the fact that it's been restored, and has the Pilczuk leadpipe. That's already been done, less for you to do to the horn. However, if you feel like being cheap, or wanna have more control over what the horn looks/plays like, then number 1 would also work, plus it's cheaper, but be warned, that thing will NOT sell for 30 dollars like it is currently listed.

![]() | Good news! I won the Olds Ambassador Restored with Pilczuk Leadpipe and the most important my credit card let me pay for it. It's 377$ +47$-the shipment. Now i'm waiting for a feeling of a Cuban cigar smoking.I never smoked the real Cuban cigar. ) It's just strange for me that somebody puts in the horn 600$,and when makes a non reserve auction with 200$ starting bid. When he says:"I had a lot of fun doing this project, but I have another Olds that I want to work on now, so I'm throwing it to the auction winds". ??????????? Anyway i hope there is no tricky things here, and thanks for your help again. Vladimir |

![]() | Some of us put money into projects "eyes wide open," meaning we know that the cash won't be recouped. But there are other benefits. I don't want to speak too much for the seller, but as I know him, I can tell you this: he put what he said into the horn--$600--and is taking about a $200 hit by selling it. Not a big deal. Getting 2/3 of an investment back on a used horn is pretty good, and the cash can be used to upgrade other horns. I can also say with certainty that you're getting a very nice horn at a decent price, and that if you ever decide to Ebay it, assuming you've kept it in great condition, you will recoup most or all of your costs. I just sold my 2-year-old Schilke B1Lb, and took a $400 hit. Here's how I look at it: I have enough to buy another Schilke (different model), and I paid $400 in "rent" for two years to play an exceptional horn. That's about 50 cents a day..well worth it to me. |
