The sub-pro models (to me) feel like the upper register is built to feel different than the low register, which I think is uncomfortable. The custom is REALLY bright, and almost gets to a point of assaulting my ears! Havent tried any of the newer Eternas though.. I may be getting these different opinion based on mouthpieces. I generally use a Laskey 68MD or a Bach 5B. What do you generally use? Van | |

| Forte User | Oh, and this Severinson I use has had different, smaller bracing installed between the bell and leadpipe. May have something to do to the sound I perceive...? Van |

| Forte User | ...just goes to show how different people's perception of the same sound can be! I play on a large bore Renaissence (sp?) which I always thought had a nice big sound. Of course, when I went to see Manny and he played it next to his Monette...well...I no longer felt quite so sure about the warmness of the tone after hearing that Monette!!! I'm sure the MP does have a lot to do with it, though. I never liked any of the Eternas, and I think Getzen even labels them semi-pro horns now. But I love their higher end horns. I had a student play a strad, a yamaha xeno, shilke, getzen custom...he always sounded best on the custom. But that was him. I had another student get the Xeno. So I really think it depends largely on the player. |
