Oscar Brashear cornet and Karma

Hi,

I was sorting some old lp's from the 70's and found some sides with Oscar Brashear listed as playing cornet in the horn section. Any idea what happened to him? Some nice playing with an odd choice instrument for a horn band.

Cheers,

Brian

Re: Oscar Brashear cornet and Karma

I spoke with him about a month ago. He told me he did most of those 70's~80's sessions on a Mount Vernon Bach. KARMA had some killer playing on it didn't it?! Oscar has been my favroite trumpeter since 1973. PEACE!

Re: Oscar Brashear cornet and Karma

There's a great Brashear solo on EW&F's "That's the Way of the World' Album...the cut is "See the Light". The first section is this great kind of afro 7/4 thing with him soloing in the background underneath the vocals. Absolutely killer. When that album came out, it was the first time I'd ever heard of him and it still knocks me out everytime I hear it.

He also does a REAL tasty solo on the Michael Franks album called "Burchfield Nines" (title track)....
