![]() | I found my 60's King Super 20 Symphony Silversonic dual bore with sterling silver bell and leadpipe while at work doing an AC repair. I offered $200 and got it for $200 a year and a half later. I'm about to sign off now so I can go practice on it. |

![]() | Those are marvelous Trumpets. I got mine (eBay) for about $550 a couple years ago. Mine has a rare 1st valve trigger (a favorite option for me). Robert Rowe

![]() | Here's a King Super 20 that's on E-Bay and is going for next to nothing. As cheap as this one is you could really rebuild this into a real beauty. Sixteen hours to go! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

![]() | My grandfather passed away in April of 2004 and it was just a few weeks ago i started going through some items that were left to me. I came upon a beat up cornet case that was in the attic. I remember him saying he used to play but never located his cornet. After I opened the case and brushed off the dust i read a logo with "the OLDS" and a serial number that dates back to the early 1930's. |

| New Friend | Mines not a pawn shop story, nor was it a huge steal, but I'm still proud of it. About four-five years ago I started looking to get rid of my Yamaha. I had $600 saved up, which is a heck of a lot for a 12 year old! I had my heart set on a strad, now you can't really pick one up for $600, so I was planning on saving for a few more years. I checked the thrifty nickel one day right around the time tuition is due for local college students. Sure enough there an ad that says "Bach strad, just reworked, good shape." No price though, so I'm expecting $1200-1400 when I call. I get a price of $1k, and ask if I can see the horn. Guy says he can come over right away, and he sounds REALLY excited about it. He starts telling me how he just doesn't have the time to play anymore, and how he needs money anyway, so he's selling it. His mom noticed his need for cash and paid for the horn to be refinished so he could sell it for a higher price (so this thing looks mint, because the finish is about 3 months old!). I played on it, played real nice. I ask him what he wants for it again once he's shown up at my house. He says $800! Down $200 from 30min ago, not bad eh!? I still don't have $800 though, so I look the horn over VERY carefully to look for something I can argue about. I find a spot on the bell which looks like a dent, but when I feel over it, theres nothing. I call him over, and ask him "what the devil is that? It's huge!" So he walks over and looks at it, and tells me "well I must of dropped it on the way over here or something, no clue how that happened though." So I tell him I was ready to give him $800, but with this new dent, I'd only give $600. He says yes, so I rush my old yamaha beater down to the music store and just hawk it for $60 so I can lock this horn up. Picked up the cash the next day and I've been playing on my brand new $600 strad ever since |

![]() | Monday, I walked into a pawn shop, which didn't look too promising. Up on a shelf, I saw one beat trumpet case, and one not so. Asked to see, opened up and found Schilke B3 and a C1. Asking was $200 for the Bb and $119 for the C. And he wouldn't even haggle. Can you believe how hard some people are to deal with. Anyway, now have two new (to me) clean horns, it's a mild winter, and she who must be obeyed will likely let me sleep somewhere other than the garage as it gets closer to spring. KP |
