| Mezzo Piano User | Re: Roth cornet? 60000-95000 serials were from 1952-61. Very good student cornet. Easy to play with good tone and accuracy. Mine is a 68xxx number so must be from the early to mid 50's but I had thought it was later. Contempora corner site has serial lists. Welcome to Contempora Corner! Horn-u-copia site has a couple of photos of Roth cornets and some commentary. Mine is the last photo and I mis-stated the serial and year and have sent in a correction. They were made in that period and there is a note the last verifiable serial for a Roth was from 59. Friend of mine has one with a deluxe case and mine has the standard case.

| Mezzo Piano User | Re: Roth cornet? It depends on what it is and condition. I got mine for $50 from Shopgoodwill.com last year. I got my Collegiate last year for $50 also, from Ebay. I just bought a nice Olds ambassador cornet yesterday from a local from Craigslist for $50. From my following a lot of Ebay auctions most Ambassadors end up going between $75-$150. Trumpets a bit more. Of course model, year and condition are important. Up the line are the higher level instruments: Reynolds Contempora, Argenta; King Master, Silversonic, Conn Concert Grand, others: Olds Special, Super, Recording, SuperRecording, etc; Getzen Capri, others, some Buescher models, Bach's, etc. can go $300-$800. The best thing to do is surf ebay and see what is current for the models you are interested in and also use advance search to check completed auctions for various models. Having luck helps too!

![]() | Re: Roth cornet? In addition to My buddy Dave's comments, the one in a deluxe case that he refered to is mine,#583XX. The Roth was Foster Reynolds attempt at making a"student grade' line of brass instruments. In doing so, he used the same major components and brass stock that he used in the making of his pro grade horns, just less fancy embellishments. Because of the heavy competition from other makers who actually were making much cheapened horns, Reynolds had to sell out to RMC who then, started throwing together the Abilene made Reynolds Medalist series of substandard 'instrument shaped objects' to compete in the student grade market. The horn that you ask about is actually almost an 'artist grade' horn. If you buy it I am certain that you will be pleased with it. OLDLOU>>

![]() | Re: Roth cornet? The Roth line of cornets was originally produced by the "Ohio Band Instrument Company", a student instrument label manufactured by the F.A. Reynolds Company. Ohio Band's primary model line was The Regent and instruments were sold to dealers rather than directly to individual students. The Roth instrument line was made for Scherl & Roth (better known for their string instruments), presumably as part of the latter's efforts to build market share in the youth orchestra market (whereas F.A. Reynolds was targeting the student and community bands, as well as professional musicians). When F.A. Reynolds founder Foster Reynolds sold his company to Scherl & Roth in 1946, the Roth instrument line became the de facto student line in the combined Reynolds/Scherl & Roth catalog. The Roth line continued until the early 1960s, when Reynolds was bought by RMC, and Roth was replaced by the cheaper Medalist line, originally produced for RMC-Reynolds by Blessing in Elkhart. RMC went bankrupt in 1963-64 and Reynolds' assets were purchased at auction by CMI, who also owned Olds. CMI moved Reynolds to Abilene in 1964. A Roth cornet with SN 64112 likely dates to approx. 1953. See these pages on my website for more info: Models : Roth Cornets : Roth Serial Numbers : Roth, Regent Hope that helps!
