And to celebrate reply number 250, here is another old Besson new Creation, the first model pictured in this thread. This one is not as good looking as the first one posted by MJ, but still an eye catcher.

After a quick web search I found a reference that Metzler started business in London in 1833; I didn't find anything that says if they are still in business. Your cornet looks like other examples that are supposedly "circa 1910."

Go to this web page and scroll down to the examples of Metzler instruments:

metzlerbrass.com - Other Makers

Judging from appearance, I would say your horn is from the 1890 to 1910 era. It sure is cool, and I like the case too.

Wayne.

I live three miles from his shop, so it's more case-opening...

but funny you should mention that, I said to him yesterday, "it's like Christmas and your birthday at the same time".

Nice horns, Tom. Very unique valve block. I tend to prefer lacquered horns over plated, especially when there's a variety in the metals used.

Re: VINTAGE HORN EYE CANDY

The valve block is not only gorgeous in itself but the mouthpiece reciever and the mouthpiece are of similar design. Just wonderful!!!
