I've seen that movie on ShowCase (canadian channel) and A&E. Its pretty good. Love the playing. Wish there was more, guess that would take away from the movie though. lol. Its a bittersweet ending though. Its well worth buying it. Hearing Jens Lindemann play that solo is amazing.

F.E. Olds & Sons Instruments

Thanks to Manny Laureano, I'm new to this site as of tonight. I have at the moment two Olds Bb trumpets.....a 1951 Studio Model which was my first purchase after high school (in 1951) and a 1956 LA Super Model.

The lacquer finish on the Studio has gone so its now an unpolished brass finish. But it's still in good condition and the valve action still very smooth and fast.

The Super I bought two years ago from a guy in Minneapolis area who had it in college and then left it in its case for the next forty years. It is like brand new. It plays really well, great big band sound and again extremely smooth and fast valve action, a trait for which the old Olds company was well known.

I've been playing on and off for the past 60 years, still love it. I'll buy more 1950's vintage Olds models when I can find them.

Nice to be aboard!

Trumpetgirl,

Try this thread: http://www.trumpetmaster.com/forums/...pic.php?t=4037

Also, there are two conversions made from Buescher Aristocrats on eBay right now. Do a search for "C Trumpet".

regards,

Bill

He meant that Ambassadors were constructed with more care than most student models and that Ambassadors play as well as most pro horns.

They were built with the maker actually CARING about the student. Its one thing to have a horn built to sustain damage, but quite another thing to put effort in construction. Nothing infuriates me more than leadpipes ripping off of my student's Blessings, or the 3rd falls off, and gets a horrible dent. Another is having a tone like a strangled duck, or intonation similar to this mental image.

I have a 1960 'Bassador. I guarantee it will be played a hundred years after I'm gone.

The 1970 horns had real bad leadpipes however, and some of the older ones have leadpipes that bend down...
