| Re: Hello! Hey I am a freshmen in highschool and I just joined this forum too and was wondering if you could answer some questions. I am using the wrong embouchure and have braces that are going to be taken off in about 5 months. Should I still be working on lip flexibility and double tonguing or would that be pointless because of my wrong embouchure? |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Hello! Hi Stuart, I have a question for you. How do you know it's the wrong embouchure? I have had many students who have been very succesful who didn't have the perfect embouchure. I say that because I think sometimes it's easy wo get to caught up in how it looks. Anyway, just a thought. As far as practicing goes I would absolutley continue to practice all aspects of trumpet playing. Even if your embouchure changes the work will pay off in the long run. Best, Andrew |

| Re: Hello! ok, thank very much, but what i was told is when you play no red part of your lips should be showing and when I play all of my red parts of my lip are showing, and the reason this is wrong is that when you play high notes, your lips don't push back so you can't go as high. I might be wrong on this i don't know though, but please reply back |

| Re: Hello! Also (sorry for of these replies) do you believe in lip slurs? because the person that told me I was using the wrong embouchure (a trumpet sectional leader and jazz band director at Bradley University in Illinois) said that he just plays, he doesn't believe in lip slurs or lip strengthening excersizes. |

Hi Stuart, It's a little hard for me to say without seeing you play, but I would suggest based on your description that you try an find a reputable teacher somewhere in your area. If you PM me where you are I can try an help you find someone. As for flexibilities. It's not my place to comment on what you have been told by another trumpet player however I will tell you that being flexible is a very important part of my playing. I would strongly advise you to keep working at it. Get in touch with me and let's see if we can find you someone to see about your embouchure question. Good luck, Andrew |
