Question Number 2 for Andy-Mac

Hi there Mr. Mac-ilicious,

Huggy has another question......how do you slur? Especially between high and low. I always get hung up and get blips and cracks. I want to be a "schmoove" playa' like yourself! Help me Andy-Mac, help me!!!

Love,
Huggy Daddy

Re: Question Number 2 for Andy-Mac

Huggy,
you may want to check your breathing out. Successful trumpet playing needs a simple inhale and exhale - similar to a yawn - with no bump between the two states.

I suspect that you are exhaling with a fo or a shizzle, neither of which are open enough to prevent the blips or cracks that you describe.

Andrews increased pressure could just blow your throat and oral cavity wide open though..................

Re: Question Number 2 for Andy-Mac

A-MAC is right, as always...i like to use the all pressure method...it takes some getting used to, but is worth it

practice with your back to the wall, your head up against it too so no matter how hard you pull you can't give an inch...start playing a low note and use as much pressure as possible to slur up to the high notes...ignore the pain, you will get used to it...i have extra finger hooks mounted on my horn for added leverage

disclaimer for all you "quick fix" kids - don't really try to use this method...(its a joke)
