I love the mellow sounds of "Affects Images" and the Caribbean (Harry Belafonte) beat in "Ethnic Stew and Brew." I regret not being back in Brooklyn during these musical times and with Mr.James Moody anticipated arrival in the 'Burgh at "The Guild" on Sept 27 -30,yours truly have no plans on going beyond a 20 mile radius from home base. Life the good life and give my regards to FLATBUSH.

Braxton's Composition 103 (for seven trumpets) features 145 pages of notated music and choreography for seven costumed instrumentalists. Composed in 1983, the 45-minute piece was first performed in 2005, in a fully staged and costumed realization at Wesleyan University celebrating Braxton's 60th birthday. The FONT Music performance would be the New York premiere, and only the second performance anywhere, of this major interdisciplinary work. Braxton's Composition 169 is one of the seminal pieces in the composer's oeuvre, yet has never been performed by the intended instrumentation. Originally written for brass quintet (on swivel chairs), 169 consists of an hour of intense and unrelenting rhythmic complexity, contrasting with sections of lush, static harmonies. Braxton never found an ensemble brave enough to tackle the imposing piece, so instead has performed the work in configurations ranging from saxophone quartet to full orchestra. The FONT Music performance will present the world premiere of the composition with its original instrumentation.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Conductions, FONT and other stuff I just got in from the FONT concert..........if you weren't there you missed an amazing concert. I have attended all of the concerts, they are indescribable. There were so many highlights. Dave Douglas' large work "Blue Latitudes" is a showpiece. Much to my surprise the bassist, Mark Dresser, almost stole the show. His playing was virtuoso stuff. Peter Evans' solo playing abetted by the Meridian Arts Ensemble in Mark Applebaum's work, "Magnetic North," was spectacular. Huang Ruo's composition, "Give You Some Color See See," again featured Peter playing with Mark Gould's New York Trumpet Ensemble and guests. It was a magical mix of Chinese Folk-Rock and brass. I liked the trumpets best That was Sunday's concert.........wait till I tell you about tonight. I'm fading fast, I will have more to say in the morning. Wilmer
