Hi all.

I was told that Wilmer has first hand experience with this sort of thing, and as I am pretty desperate, I figured I'd post this here.

Forgive me if this is not an appropriate topic for this forum.

Last Monday AM I had a couple of fillings done to replace two that had fallen out about 3 weeks prior. I have had both these fillings since I was a teen.

The first was a chip out of the inside bottom corner of my first right top incisor. The chip might have been a chip about about 1/16th".

The other filling was the inside of my second bottom right incosir. It was about 1/2 " long, and consisted of about 1/4 of the outside of the tooth.

So, in theory, my teeth should be back to where they were a few months ago. However, as of Monday,. I cannot play a note about D above high C. I generally own the G above that, and have a decent G#/A. Now I cannot make a sound. It is if someone all of a sudden shoves their finger into the end of my lead pipe when I ascend above D.

What the heck is going on? What can I do to get around this? CAN I get around this? I have a big band rehearsal Thursday night on lead. What should I do?

I am not a dental problem expert. Getting air through the horn seems to be the problem, try playing using only the mouthpiece.
Let me know what happens.

Your teeth are of a solid material and do not change their characteristics while playing. I do not think that the minor change in geometry could kill a 5th. I would suspect that your lips may have been traumatized when they were stretched open to make room for the dentist and his jackhammer, chainsaw and cement mixer. Don't practice (no warm up or anything else either) for a day or 2, maybe they just need a break to regenerate!

People that I know personally that have had dental work done and found that minor dental changes resulted in major problems in playing have all found that after an adjustment period of a week or so have been ok afterwards. I have had this expierence myself, so hopefully you will have the same expierence. Best of luck!!

I have a mouth full of bonded facias. It hasn't caused any problems. My dentist knows I am a trumpet player so she does a very good job of polishing a repair.
She has bonded my incisors (sp) many times and it amazes me of the skill she has.
