I loved playing Joe Tex act because you never knew what he was going to do. Joe was an ex-paratrooper. One afternoon Joe jumped off stage, this was not unusual he did this almost every show. He used to climb out of the pit and run around the theater............ ah the good old days A few years ago, I got a call to play on a Mary J Blige album. I didn't know anything about here. Virgil Jones and Darryl Shaw were the other trumpet players. Frank Wess was there in the reed section. It was like the old days. We put the headphones on..........there was stuff vocally going on that was unbelievable! We, the horns, tried our best but it just wasn't working. Frank, in that voice of his yelled ........"Get that b***h out of the cans" Well, we were on the floor. At the back of the studio, SONY I think, a door opened and a glaring woman stormed out of the studio. Guess who I haven't worked for her since. Wilmer

![]() | Re: Disco! Wilmer, Thanks for posting that. It was a great lifter for late afternoon in the office. Regardless of the crap I'm reading... it's ALL great !! I'm with Wilmer and a few others.... it's ART... if it moves one soul to be joyous then it's very much worth it! Liten, we are musicians... we should support all kinds of music... I said "support"... you don't have to like it! I bet those guys loved playing those parts... If I could fulfill any dream / fantasy, it would NOT be playing with the CSO... (although I love classical music)... it would be to play with EWF, Gloria Estefan or a high energy group like that... Thanks again Wilmer. |
