The Cat featured Ernie Royal, Bernie Glow, Mark Markowtiz, Snooky Young and Thad Jones on trumpet. April 27 & 29 1964.

Then there was the Walk On The Wild Side album,

March 26 & 28 1962 with Joe Newman, Do Severinsen, Joe Wilder and Ernie Royal on trumpet!

Great Stuff!

Yes indeed.
I was blessed to have arrived and lived in the belly of the beast in 1963 when horns were wailin' around Washington Square Park and every square inch of Real Estate in the Big Apple was turned into a venue for Jazz and more Jazz.
Hell, the Village Cinema was our downtown Carnegie Hall .

Re: Ernie Royal

Thank you Wilmer. That's really a gem. I never got to meet him but enjoy hearing stories about him.

Another great example of his lead playing is "Christmas Cookin" by organist Jimmy Smith. With a full brass section (including french horns) and great arrangements by Billy Byers, this is the only Christmas CD that gets me in the holiday spirit anymore!
