Re: Favorite Broadway Show

(Aside from West Side ) Andrew Lippa's "The Wild Party", I played the Australian premier and the trumpet part is one of the best i've ever played. The show is really entertaining as well.

Re: Favorite Broadway Show

I've heard great things about Andrew Lippa. (I've done gigs with him where he has conducted, but have never heard his music.) I'll check it out.

Have you ever played in Adelaide,South Australia and had the opportunity to
meet Bob Montgomery of Denver,Colorado ?
Bob records for Sea Breeze Jazz.

Re: Favorite Broadway Show

I do agree that City of Angels was a great show - unfortunately it went over the heads of the West End audience too and closed far too soon.
Right now I am loving playing on the new Don Sebesky orchestrated Porgy and Bess - the music is gorgeous and I have spoken about what a work of genius Jerry Springer the Opera is before.
Its hard to ignore WSS and Guys and Dolls but I think the show I enjoyed the most was Into the Woods.
The cast recording I played on won a grammy that year. I'm sorry to say Wilmer that I played the whole show on Bflat trumpet - so no double for me, but I was quite green then.
The whole band got a beautiful and very thoughtful gift from SS on the opening night, a personally engraved bag of silver beans.
Sadly that show also closed before its time, largely as a result of the outbreak of the first gulf war when it was feared that London would become a target for terrorists, causing theatre audiences to dramatically decline.

Favourite show I have seen might well be the Lion King - more for the spectacle than the music - in London there is no trumpet in the orchestra!!!

All the best. Noel.

Of the ones I have played -- West Side Story and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Of the ones I have watched -- Les Miz.

Re: Favorite Broadway Show

Chorus Line! Great skimpy costumes, and there was this one actress who was excited every performance. Fun book, too. Did I mention the coustumes?
