Manny Laureano has a spectacular aura about
Bravo, Glenn!

Here:

Scumann- Bb C Eb d minor

Brhams---C D F e minor.

The interesting thing about those keys is the way they line up... one step from each other. Schumann loved the music of Brahms and even though their relationsip was shortlived, Schumann's championing of Brahms was a huge boost to his notoriety.

(the) Pa-a-a-arty's over. Sounds like Tchaik 6 to me...

Ok, ok, ok... time for a hint:

The symphony is nicknamed after a large gaseous extra terrestrial body...

Ahhh... Chris, you just made it almost too easy.

I must've sat at the piano for a good half hour trying different combinations of those four notes and it never rang...but I did have some decent material! Now, if I could remember what I did...

Jupiter from Holst's Planets!

Wouldn't that also be the first four notes of "Tenderly?"

Hmmm, it's not the one I'm looking for but I'm realizing now that you mention it that those four notes do exist in that order in the midst of the slow 3/4 theme from Holst's Jupiter, don't they? Maybe not in the right key... I'm not sure. So I think we have to give you credit for that one.

However in the symphony I'm looking for, the theme consists soley of those 4 notes, in concert pitch, in that order (C-D-F-E). And this theme all over the place in one particular movement, not hidden or disguised in any way. someone's gotta get this soon.

TD -- Tenderly -- of course! I never thought of that one. Good catch.

Saint-Saens Third(Organ) Symphony has those notes as a theme, But I think you are looking for the Mozart" Jupiter" Symphony.

Hah! Wilmer, as I was writing my last response, which I discarded, you were writing yours! I had guessed Saint Saens; I was reminded of it when I set my keyboard to a warm pad sound and played down on the bottom end.

But, alas, I was wrong. Saint Saens is a beautiful piece, though.

right on, wilmer! Wow, and Saint-Saens too. boy those four notes sure get around, huh... I suppose this question might have been more interesting if we'd limited it to composers that lived before Brahms's time.
