I once heard a story where someone said that they wouldn't want to be taught by Wynton Marsalis - they wanted to be taught by the person who taught Wynton!
Wynton studied with a lot of different people in high school, but I think his main teacher was George Jansen, who studied with Vacchiano.

Didn't Wynton study with Bill Fielder and then Vacchiano?

I studied with John Wright of the USMC "Presidents Own" in Washingon DC. I would never change that for anyone. He was the best!

Buddy Brister or P.G. Lowery.
Papa Jo Jones, told me about these pioneers in brass. They were, I am told, the equal of the soloists of their day. Check out this site for information.

In several of his books he talks about the many teachers he had growing up in NO. Jansen was the main one before going up to New York.

Mr. Laureano...... . Not only is he an excellent musician, once you meet him it is like you have known him all your life....He makes you feel very comfortable when you take a lesson, and to me that is one teacher that I would recommend to anyone wanting to learn or improve on trumpet.

Well, if I could play like Wynton (Marsalis), I wouldn't play like Wynton.
