Susan Slaughter uses a D for her Messiah work.
I am sure she is going to perform some where in St. Louis this weekend. I wish I knew where.

Yeah, I'm dusting off the D as well...

I've got a Blackburn/Bach conversion: Large bore D Bach (78342) w/ a Blackburn leadpipe (11-347) and a Mt. Vernon, NY Bell (229). I know what you mean about old Bachs - what a sweet horn.

Kelly-

Where are you playing? I'm at St. Margaret Mary in Golden Valley and Edgecumb in St. Paul. I'm breaking out the D for Edgecumb. It's good to be a trumpeter on Easter...

I'd like to hear more about the hysterical aspect of TTSS :)

Re: It's that time again

Behold, I tell you a mystery:
One of Handels favorite trumpet players was Valentine Snow. There is a painting of him holding a natural trumpet (ca. 1720 by John Harris - Dave Edwards builds historic copies) at the Harpsichord Museum in England (also on the cover of one of Ed Tarrs books). On it his eyes are very bloodshot. He was known to have been an alcoholic. In spite of all of that, he was the top trumpet for King George and probably the most powerful influence of his day! He lived to be 70 years old.

Probably the origin of the term "snow job" and also the tune: "be my funny valentine"..................
