John Hagstrom at the YDOT

John Hagstrom studied with my buddy, Rick Henly. Rick was at John's clinic to check him out.
John did not play a note, but he provided a memorable clinic about trumpet playing on the exalted level he occupies.
He talked about that taboo subject, stage-fright and how he overcame it. He talked about practice techniques for the aspiring player.
His talk was riveting.

I played in the US Marine Band with John. I remember coming back from a funeral at Arlington and hearing him playing Schlossberg in the Band Hall afterwards. The rest of us were leaving for a cold one ( it was August in DC, and around 2:00 PM). That kind of work ethic explains how he got where he is!
