Thanks Wilmer .
I recognize Mr.Morgan's voice with my eyes closed immediately after opening the file.

What most people don't know about Lee was how astute he was to Domestisc and Global affairs and was more informed by his world travels and daily readings of various periodicals than most in Federal,State and Local governments in these U.S.of A.

To the right of Lee on the bandstand is a cat (Billy Harper) I felt never got the recognition he duly deserves.

Great video! Not to be grimm, (but I'm going to)....Was it true that Lee's ex-wife shot and killed him while he was on a gig.

Re: Lee Morgan Speaks!

Lee's speaking voice is all over the place on "Live at the Lighthouse," which is my favorite album of his. It's edgy sort of like Freddie Hubbard or Woody Shaw, but it still has that badass Lee Morgan feel going for it. This video looks and sounds like it was recorded around the same time, especially since it has Jymie Merritt and Harold Mabern on it.

And yes, that is true about getting shot by his wife (or ex-wife, or whatever... I think that was the subject of their argument). He was 33 when it happened. What is it with really good jazz trumpet players and dying young? Lee, Clifford Brown, Fats Navarro, Booker Little...

Helen More was NOT his wife and the cats in the video were about the last cats he worked with prior to that Feb 19,1972 incident at SLUGS in NYC.
