| Re: Manny's in town! How is Jimmy Owens doing? I really love to hear him play. I'm surprised/annoyed by how many people don't know who he is. His approach to metered segmentation and scale exercises is the best. For anyone to be surprised/annoyed about Mr.Jimmy Owens not being a familiar name in JAZZ is an indication that they are conversing with the wrong people about trumpet stalwarts and music makers. Hell,most kids (under age 40) don't know about Clark Terry,Thad Jones,Marvin Stamm,etc,etc. It's no accident that Jimmy titled one of his mid 60's selection - "You Had Better Listen." Here in Pittsburgh,Pa MILAN is LOVE ! |
