Name Dropping aka IAJE

I met ex-Barrett JHS buddy Ted Curson at the NY Hilton today, what a day it was! The first guy I ran into was Jon Faddis at the Schilke booth. Tony Kadleck was the next heavy I encountered on the exhibit floor. Billy Taylor was in the lobby, and there I ran into my birthday twin, David Baker. As we were getting on the elevator to go upstairs, Curtis Fuller was exiting that elevator. Man, it was like "Old Home" week Coming toward us on the second floor is a familiar face.....could it be? It was Wayne Bargeron and Frank Greene coming toward us. I had never met Wayne. I walked over, stuck out my hand and introduced myself. He lurks around here I suspect, He recognized me from TM Bob Cranshaw, Mac Gollehon, David Weiss and many, many others were in attendance.
A pall came over us with the news of Michael Brecker and Alice Coltrane's passing.
Next year I want to make Convention.

Wowwww that sounds like such an amazing day - you have no idea how jealous I am!

Why can't we have festivals like that in England?!

Chris.

Two SchuylKILLERS in the same building in the Big Apple ?
That's some scary stuff O Wise One .
After you cats caught up on old-times and when you exited the Hilton through the 6th (Avenue of the Americas) doors did you make a right towards 52nd Street and another right on 52nd St towards 7th Avenue / Joe's Pier (formerly,The Hickory House) to enjoy some sea food and fermented grapes ?
Wilmer, the next time you visit with Ted,ask him if he remembers a former NBA player (Sonny Crawford) of the '60 from the days he lived by Salem Church/
St.Nicholas on 136th & 7th Avenue.
Lionel Hampton owned the new building on 136th & Amsterdam Avenue.

I'm almost certain that Curtis resided in Brooklyn by Foster & Nostrand (Vanderveer Estates) during the early '70s.
Never had a chance to talk with him as I was playing hoops and having to contend with James "Fly" Williams.

Re: Name Dropping aka IAJE

I regularly kicked Bobby Timmons rear end on the court. Bobby Durham was probably the best player of the bunch. It's a shame he only grew to 5'7"

I cannot sit silent without representing my man Bobby T.
First,I'm not diminishing or attacking your hoops skills but my nature,I cannot sit silent without representing Bobby T. a man I first met in 1963
As in the case with most trumpeters and reed players who protect their
lips and teeth against all "incoming" , pianist are most protective of their fingers.

The man I knew was no different to all the Philadelphians who settled in NYC
during my times ('60s) - they loved the hoops game.
If Bobby had'nt selected a career in music he would have convinced
J.Edgar Hoover that had he attended Overbrook High,he would be a starting guard in the NBA.

Bobby was much fun,he would say "The No Blood,No Foul" rule originated
in Philadelphia and he knew lots of cats (cannot now recall if Wilmer's name came up) who after a friendly game of hoops would be rushed to the emergency room of Methodist Hospital.

Wilmer,I hate to do this to you but back in the day with Bobby,et.al.
did you guys receive favorable treatment at the Diner at 15th & Snyder.

As I conclude,"This Here" by Bobby is now playing on WDUQ !

Who God Bless no man curse !
