| Re: piccolo trumpet in C??? I haven´t even ventured into picc terr yet.... so, two stupid questions.... rumors on the grapevine tell me thet the original trumpets in the Brandens were as quiet as the oboe... check out Koopman.......so firstly, has anyone checked was the "authetic" people are doing? And secondly, is there interesting solo music being composed for p¡cc now? On a personal note, I have just bought a C that can be a tigrish Bb, and has all the valve slides to fit for both...... maybe in another 15 years I´ll move up a few more tones! |

a natural trumpet is much softer than a modern trumpet but NOT a soft as a baroque oboe or recorder. Baroque instruments have a more distinctive tone and are easier to differentiate acoustically. The "authentic" people can give picc players a real run for the money. There seems to be no technical or intonation issues anymore. I play the baroque trumpet quite a bit now. The learning curve took 2 years. None of the commercial recordings have realistic recording techniques to preserve the "original" balance. The recording engineer is a god above the trumpet player - free to manipulate and destroy at will! As far as new music for the picc, Ed Carroll's forum deals a lot with what is very new (and often abstract). If you are interested, start a thread there - I am sure that you will get quite a few responses! | |
