for people in North America: g below the staff I call "low g", in the staff I call "second line g", on top of the staff, "g on top of the staff" and an octave higher "high g". In Germany: pedal tone g "G" g below the staff "g", in the staff "g1", on top of the staff "g2", an octave higher "g3" and above double c "g4". The tubas g below the bass cleff is called "GG". Octaves ALWAYS start with "C". Actually a string bass is also called a double bass because it plays in the "double" (CC) octave versus the cello that plays in the C octave. Tubas are often called BB or CC Tubas for the same reason.

If you have a beautiful sound and are solid in basics, you have a good start on playing professionally. Being well versed in many styles of music is a must. Don't obsess about range. Wilmer
