I met Al and another Bay Area trumpeter (Vern Thompson) and many other trumpeters and musicians including "The Wise One" when AOL was in its infancy.
I've acquired their offerings during the period before AOL killed Jazz and
before the birth of this board.
Their offerings made me reflect on the period when Freddie Hubbard and Joe Henderson were considering joinging and going their own-way but were having difficulties finding a distributor.

They pinned their hopes on the Motown czar who later informed them that there is 'NO' money to be made in jazz...this is the same czar who later became the distributor for CTI music -
Go Figure !
Give my best regards to the guys and dolls on the left coast and keep on tooting !

Re: Ray Vega

Welcome Ray, I've had the privledge of hearing you several times with Tito Puente and spoke to you briefly in Denver CO a number of years back. Really like your playing & what your doing with the whole latin jazz genre. Wow, Ok lets see now, Ray Vega, Bill Ortiz (welcome Bill, have enjoyed your playing as well througout the years with the Escovedo gang & most recently with Santana, sound great man!) and Oscar Onoz, whom I've had the pleasure of meeting not too long ago, wonderful player too. Man it's good to see you guys here, huge fan & very involved with the whole latin scene here in Tucson, AZ. Tomorrow nite playing with a band who play a lot of the older Cuban style tunes, Saturday playing straight up NY style Salsa! Oscar, Scotty is coming to check out the gig tomorrow nite, I'll tell him we spoke. Later

Yes indeed !
AOL killed a good thing with their inordinate changes and removal of boards.
When I joined AOL in 1992-3 it was Version ZERO and by the time I split in 2005 it was Version 5.
The forum also included Mike Vax,Bob Montgomery and the founder of Riverside Records.

Brother Don:
I apologize for my non response some 2 months ago as I had forgotten my
password and was reluctant in creating another screenname.
At any rate, over the weekend while listening to the Buddy DeFranco Wailers
(1956) with Harry 'Sweets' Edison,I had a total recall .
Hope all's well at your end.
Keep on keeping on.

Gads...SWEETS EDISON...Thanks Joe! Time to dig out some of my favorite Edison CDs. Give my bes to the Guild and all its ICONs.
Please tell me everyone of em' are still kickin'

Sorry to say we lost our beloved Floyd Standifer a while back. A very very touching tribute by the Seattle Rep. Jazz Orchestra and friends.
I thank the good lord for giving me time to share some space, time and music with this amazing mentor of brass.
