Wilmer
Wilmer, Do the unnamed (or named for that matter) session players still benefit financially from recordings when they get re-released years later or experience new popularity? I don't mean to ask you about your personal business. I'm just curious how the system works (or doesn't work). Bill

Residuals

In the case of "McHale's Navy," a Village People recording was used in the film version. We were compensated because of the use of the recorded music in a different medium. This happens a lot.

I still get a few dollars every year for "Kramer vs.Kramer," it had to have been recorded more than twenty-five years ago. I play a few measures of the Purcell Trumpet Sonata in the movie.
We get residuals for films in August and record residuals in September.
The busy guys get serious money in repayments.
These payments were negotiated by the A.F.of M. for its members

Thanks for the reply Wilmer. Maybe you know who played the flugel horn solo on James Bond theme "For Your Eye's Only"? I've always liked that. Bill

Google is a wonderful tool. I typed in "for your eyes only" flugelhorn (I put the title of the song in quotes so that it would take it as a full string and not search on the individual words.) These are the results of that search:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...%22+flugelhorn

It would appear that Derek Watkins played that solo.

Well, I have a confession to make - since I'm a database administrator, I know a trick or two about searching for text using a tool like Google - using quotes around a block of text works wonders. You can find movie scripts if you can remember certain lines - try typing this into Google and see what you get:

"in places you don't talk about at parties"

or how about

"saying to Roosevelt E. Roosevelt" (Good Morning Vietnam)

or

"It really tied the room together, man" (This one is a cult classic)
