Re: Roy Eldridge

I have studied and copied and transcribed all the greats. And I have to say there is no greater trumpet player ever than Roy Eldridge. Maybe several as good, but none better. He was a pint sized dynamo who could cut anyone, even Dizzy many times, even if Dizzy later returned the favor. One of my all time faves. He had a sound, excellent time, chops to burn and always expressed something. One of the trumpet immortals. He could play a solo in the staff that would break your heart, and then stretch to three and a half octaves to prove another point. What an immortal talent. Pittsburgh's finest.

Michael McLaughlin

Whose cruel idea was it for the word "lisp" to have an "s" in it?

One time Roy played so well at a jam, he made Rex Stuart cry.
