There is something about the trumpet.....

A few day ago I had a gig on the Island playing with and coaching a High School trumpet section. I got there quite a bit early, so I hung out in the Band Room. The school was one of those huge complexes, the space was shared with a junior high school.
The junior high school trumpet section there was working with their director, who, by the way didn't look much older than the junior high guys.
The section was putting on the teacher unmercifully, they were re-writing the charts. They were taking the parts up an octave, playing a bit too loudly and having a great time There must be something in the valve oil.......
It was like being at a sectional rehearsal with some pro groups I have played with.

That's a funny story, Wilmer. Makes me think back to my hs days. I ran into one of my hs directors a few years back... he's a methodist minister now.

Re: There is something about the trumpet.....

Reminds me of when I took the whole Marching book up an octave on parades (and held the note over at least a few beats with a sweet KIss off!)

Doh!
