![]() | Re: Things that keep the Assistant/Associate up nights A lot of the Shostakovich Symphonies are scored with the 3rd part higher then the second and at times doubling 1st with the second doing the octave thing.

and anything that is faster than quarter notes. Of course, I'm only 50 years old, so by the time I'm 80 I might be ready for eighth notes. Gotta run now, because I'm spending the day wood-shedding "Happy Birthday"... - morris, world's worst trumpet player and darn proud of it | |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Things that keep the Assistant/Associate up nights If you're playing the 1911 Petrouchka.... We're talking mostly about 3rd trumpet parts, though. The things that keep me up at night are the crazy 1st parts that get handed down to me. I've got nobody to pass them along to if I don't want to play them |

![]() ![]() | Re: Things that keep the Assistant/Associate up nights How about Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet? The principal grabs the fun cornet part, leaving the opening ff high c# and those nasty high c to e 16th slurs in the capable (Bb holding because "we'll be better in tune that way") hands of the third/Asst./Ass. Peter Grimes is by far the scariest though.
