Re: the third button

The third button is for keys with flats. Also, when coupled with an agonized expression, used to look cool when playing a sour note while improvising.

It is also the favorite valve of models posing with a trumpet, usually while the model is sucking on the mouthpiece.

Re: the third button

we dont call it the pinky ring, we call it the pressure hook. i use it all the time in the no pleasure system ,but overuse of the pressure hook has been known to cause a bump in the back of the players head, so the pressure hook should be used in moderation, because pain hurts. please check back on this thread from time to time, because i am looking to post my latest innovation, the "No Water Key System for Brass Instruments". It is an innovative teaching technique, and if i can post it, you will see what i mean. more to follow.

You will discuss the gurgling variation of "The Carnival of Venice"......the one you made famous? Talk about new techniques!

Didn't Eddie Harris play a horn like that? I don't recall it sounding very nice
Not very nice at all.

INDEED !
Eddie played a trumpet with reed and buttons.
Two weeks ago,the Guild (MCG) hosted a twin bill featuring Dr. Anthony Brown and Monty Alexander, respectively.

Dr.Brown's band was introduced as "The Asian American Jazz Orchestra" and a member of that orchestra played a trumpet with reed and no buttons and
if I remember correctly it was called a LABA.
It's a high pitch instrument like the bagpipe and like the bagpipe after two tunes (Amazing Grace and Scotland The Brave) it's time to move on,
moving on down the line.
