![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Today at Riverside Church Today was the funeral for Max Roach. It was a regal affair. Maya Angelou, Bill Cosby, Amiri Baraka, Phil Schaap and Stanley Crouch spoke. Cecil Bridge water, Billy Harper and Reggie Workman played the Prelude. Cassandra Wilson, Billy Taylor and Jimmy Heath, Gary Bartz, Cecil Bridgewater, Billy Harper and Reggie Workman offered musical selections. It was truly a touching service. I saw faces from the past. Yousef Lateef was there, it's been years since I last saw him. It was a Who's Who of Jazz at the service. Chico Hamilton, Roy Haynes, Henry Grimes, Sonny Rollins, Hank Jones and many, many more were there. The trumpet players I saw were Jimmy Owens, Eddie Henderson, Joe Wilder, Dizzy Reece and Cecil Bridgewater. It was a moving tribute to Max. Wilmer
