| Re: Try this Shavers has a place in most jazz histories but not a big one. He is almost a footnote and, since I am not THAT old, I know little about him other than he was a buddy of Diz and according to the histories he was a "bridge" to bebop. For a footnote, he plays very well. Does anybody know much about him? |

| Re: Try this That is one of the most "live" videos I've ever seen. I mean that you can feel the energy right through the screen. I envy those of you that can do that kind of stuff. It's really exciting to experience. ML |

| Re: Try this Charlie Shavers was a true jazz great and when Wilmer says he didn't back down even to Roy, that's saying a lot, because Roy was the resident lion. John McNeil sees Shavers as a progenitor of Fats Navarro and Clifford, whereas Diz came from Roy. I tend to agree. Another collosal trumpeter who tends to get overlooked: Hot Lips Page. He wouldn't back down to either Roy or Shavers! To hear Charlie at his best, check the various incarnations of the John Kirby Sextet, Charlie with Norris Turney, O'Neill Spencer, Billy Kyle and Ruseell Procope. What a band! | Re: Try this o.o Oh man! That was cool! I loved the ending I love the feeling when you just get together with a few trumpet friends and just jam. Most of the time it ends up being really fun, and we always have some laughs! |
