I am holding a Bach C trumpet and the mouthpiece is a Monette STC1-2.

BTW Clarence, thank your mom for that "jerk" recipe. It was excellent and definitely a keeper.

No... they alternate earthquakes with brush fires, mudslides, and Jay Leno sightings!

Just kidding ya, Clarence: I remember a visit into the Hemet/ San Jacinto area over New Years a few years back (even drove down the coast highway to San Diego)... wish I could have seen it when things were green.

I will leave the union discussion to Wilmer and Mzony. They have expressed union concerns very well in this thread.

On a side note, I am a native NYer. I grew up in Brooklyn and also spent some time living on the upper west side of Manhattan. I have walked through Tribeca alone at 3 am and rode the trains at all hours. That whole "mugging" statement makes those who know (and love) our city laugh. NY had its problems in that regard......back in the 70's and 80's, but today it is one of safest, classiest places to be. If you want to worry about muggings and theft, go to any city in Europe. The thievery is rampant.
Hey Alex

No apologies nessasary Ya I wish I had a group together, but I just generally sit in with bands, busk, teach, and a whole lotta little stuff like that. By the way Alex, that horn and specially mouthpiece you have sounds HOT. I wanna get a Monette Prana mouthpiece for my Martin Committee, but with the holidays coming up I have a feeling my wife would flip if I did that right now .

Thats really interesting about NYC Alex. I have just heard that it was a violent place to live. Guess that was misinformation. I heard that its a real crazy (as in good) place to live in terms of art, music, technology etc. We'd love to move to the US as I know my career would really take off there, but getting a work visa without someone to sponsor you is next to impossable. Anyway its like 5:30 am here and I'm just winding down after a great gig tonight...gonna get some sleep

Clarence

Hay man...its Sunday morning, so I wanna wish you the best of luck with your move to Vegas tomorrow on the 28th. Let us know how it is there!

Rick,

According to the latest study, Camden, NJ is the most dangerous city in the US. Following that of course are the other cespools of Detroit, St. Louis and Flint, MI. NYC is actually the 4th safest among cities of over 500,000.

re unions and Rick

What everyone failed to point out rearding Rick's response to this thread is that he lives in a country with a radically different view from the US regarding social welfare. i wonder what an anti union musician in Canada would say if health care was something he had to pay for himself. Or old age pensions.
I sadi it before, I'll say it again. I pay less than $5000.00 a year for my family plan health insurance. That is only possible because of Local 802. And that only happened because enough musicians were interested in taking matters intotheir own hands to improve their lot. The Union is the tool that allows us to do that. Rick, if you are unhappy with your union, show up to a meeting and speak your piece. Maybe under your leadership, the local union can do much more than it does to protect musicians in your fair city.
