![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think all of the rotary piccolo players will agree, due to the better airflow and reduced disturbance of the airstream, rotary valves work better. I also think it is easier to play a Scherzer more quietly than a Schilke or Stomvi (Getzen, Selmer.....). If the recorder part is being played on a modern flute, it may not matter much, still generally the trumpet is too loud live. The natural trumpet in F has a tone color that blends better and Bach knew how to match the strengths and weaknesses of those old instruments, even a recorder has a chance with the original instrumentation! I am sure you will do fine however you decide to play it. If you can borrow a (decent)rotary picc, I am sure you will see what I mean. |

![]() ![]() | just a quick note to let anyone who's interested I survived my first solo orchestra gig in 10 years last night. I didn't pass out or bleed even though it certainly left a lot to be desired. I'm playing it again on Sunday and we'll see how it goes. Thanks again everyone for all the tips. -T |
