FYI, this Concerto is a transcription of Sonata #11 of Albinoni's "Trattenimenti Armonici" (opus 6), a collection of 12 sonatas for violin.

No, the man said violin! Hah, kidding...

As for the topic of key, I once read a version of it in Eb. It played pretty well, with minimal moments of being awkward, and was a decent compromise to the more-often heard key a 4th down.
