| Re: Corno da caccia VS Flugelhorn Can I throw another option into the mix? I sometimes do high horn parts on Eb tenor horn. I am thinking here about the Brandenburg no 1. I have one that points forwards like a flugel so it doesnt have the problem of the sound going up the way and sounding unbalanced. It does sound more like a french horn than a flugel would. |

point taken. There is NO reason that trumpet players should not tackle anything that they can get their hands on. My personal experience shows that players that take some time to figure out natural trumpets or baroque horns, do end up playing the modern counterparts differently and in my opinion closer to the original pulse of the music. This is not an arguement for "historically correct". If we stretch our personal scope enough, we can probably do a musically acceptable job with a garden hose! | |
