Re: Does the music matter?

I think the music matters but some people like a wide range of music. In my case I'm learning about old jazz, I like bands like EBN and Man Or Astro-Man? which are very very weird, I grew up on 70s rock, also Herb Alpert, I like Tomita, I like classical (except for Vivaldi, I hate him!) etc. I can actually appreciate a wide range of stuff. But I'd still not pay to hear say Haken, doing a type of music I really don't like. Let's see .... Haken playing country, nope! Unless it's OLD country, then that could be pretty cool.

Re: Does the music matter?

Reading these posts made me think about the flip-side. As a performer, which matters more, playing it perfectly so others think we are great, or playing the music for music's sake? As a very young performer, I often find myself wanting everyone to think I play well, and after many failed attempts in the competition world, I begin to question my abilities. Fortunately, I have a wonderful professor who reminds me that performing isn't about getting every note right (he would make a joke about not getting them all himself) but about playing because we love to play.

This might be a little off subject but I thought it would be good to explore this argument from the performers view.

Re: Does the music matter?

Any computer could play music correctly, but I don't think they have programmed one to play it musically, expressively, and spontaneously.

Re: Does the music matter?

To me it's about expression, interpretation of the written to the production of the sound in a way that expess' the feeling of the:
A. Audiance 1. Composer
B. Performer 2. Perfomer
C. Composer 3. Audiance
Pick one from each column.
It's extremly rare to get all three on the same sheet of music at the same time and space. Goal Is for the one in the middle to be the Link to the other.
Get in touch with the feeling of the others involved......either singularly on as the whole group.
