| Piano User | I'd really like to incorporate trumpet performance into performance art as well as doing some contemporary/experimental music recitals. I've never seen myself playing in an orchestra. Though there is some wonderful orchestral literature I'd like to perform, I've always found chamber music and recital settings much more intimate and conducive to communication with the audience; at least for me personally. I'd love it if I could make a living playing new music and giving modern composers (popular and unknown) support, as well as an outlet for their trumpet music. -Matthew |

| Mezzo Piano User | As a 48 year old, life long music lover, and 30 year gigging rock guitar player..... I'd like to take this trumpet thing that I've become obsessed with the past 2 years, go back to school, finish my BA music degree. I'd love to play in some community orchestra, find a kicking pop/rock/funk/R&B band in need of a trumpet/guitar guy, maybe teach some youngsters in my spare time. Yea, that'd suit me just fine, right through retirement....... for now, I'm taking lessons and practicing my ass off. My teacher says I've picked up 6-7 years of trumpet ed in under 2 years time. I gotta keep this pace up. Time ain't on my side. |

![]() | Andre, Great to hear from you (and to see you here) For those of you that don't know, Andre is principal trumpet now in the Rotterdam Philharmonic. He was a runny-nosed kid at the conservatory when I was there, joined the orchestra as 4th, and saved my butt countless times in my last few years in the band. Very happy, EC |

| well, ok I came close to the feeling when I toured with Mayard. While my time on the band wasn't "flawless," the sense of wonder about it was pretty cool. With that premise, the best feeling I have since then was playing the CD relase concert with my quintet at a local high school jazz festival in the Chicago area. We played for 90 minutes, non stop, and played just my compositions, with the excetion of three jazz standards. So, my dream job??? I would love to play concerts (not dives!) with my quintet and be able to support my family doing that - nothing more (don't care to get rich) nothing less (got bills to pay and two kids to put through college). I love the road, too! As an addendum, I'd love to do concert solo work, but not doing things like the Haydn or Hummel. There are too many terrific classical players who do that already. I'd like to do the Fischer Tull, Arutunian, Tomasi and Jolivet and get paid to do it. I can actually play these things, but I never have the opportunity to do so. OK, I've played the Tull and the ARutunian a few times with local community orchestras, but it has been a while, and I didn't think I played them all that well when I did. I can really nail them now, but the opportunities aren't there. Oh well... Ok, the premise was DREAM career, right? Well, there you go! Peace. Nick |

| Manny has my dream job. Playing the best music in the world, on the best instrument in the orchestra, with massively talented musicians all around. Plus directing the orchestra from time to time and working with talented, motivated young people. Which orchestra isn't particularly important to me, but my first picks would be the Hallé Orchestra or the LSO. I'll get there.........Eventually. |
