Re: Early influences?

The first movie soundtrack I ever bought was the Danny Elfman score to the original Tim Burton Batman movie. I listened to that thing over and over and over. When I found out that Elfman also wrote the Simpsons theme (this was back in high school for me) it was one of the first times I truly noticed a composer's "style". I thought about the Simpsons theme, "Duh, that DOES sound like Danny Elfman from Batman." Anyway, the trumpet playing on it was great. It was the LSO, but I'm not sure of the trumpet player.

Also, here's another vote for Star Wars (duh). :)

Well, a sense of humor might be a common factor! Here's my favorite cartoon of all time:

YouTube - One froggy evening

It taught me everything I ever needed to know about show biz.

Re: Early influences?

Don't forget the "alien" scene from Spaceballs (where they spoof that froggy cartoon).

Re: Early influences?

Singing is like trumpet, so I like to singa.
YouTube - I Love To Singa
I looked for the cartoon which featured "Toy Trumpet", but couldn't find it, so how about some Raymond Scott?
YouTube - The Raymond Scott Quintette - War Dance For Wooden Indians
YouTube - Raymond Scott Quintette - Powerhouse - Hit Parade
YouTube - Raymond Scott - The Toy Trumpet - played by Chamber League

Re: Early influences?

I loved the Bill Bixby "Magician" theme, great picc.

And lets not forget Don Ellis for The French Connection,

and any brass writing by Jerry Goldsmith, from Perry Mason to Planet of the Apes (and Chinatown, of course!)
