This is interesting. When I purchased this (quite some time ago and not long after it was first available), it came with only a Bb trumpet part. I wrote to Ewazen, told him how much I loved this piece, and mentioned that I would be doing it on the large Eb as it really fit that horn well. A few days later I had an Eb part and a nice note from him in my mailbox. Nice guy!

Probably the publisher is evolving the way the set are made. I ordered on the amazon the piece with few other pieces but wrongly they send me just the E flat part (you can buy a single part for only 5$. So wrote them again and they promised to send piano, violin and C trumpet part. Few years ago a colleague of mine was doing the piece for an exam at the Fribourg Conservatoire (Switzerland) and I am pretty sure that he was playing from a C trumpet part...the violin player was his girl friend....what is this french named orchestra that you are playing in?

I guess I've never quite paid thought to our orchestra having a French name. The Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra is so named simply because it is located in Eau Claire, Wisconsin (USA). The city of Eau Claire (French for "clear water") is a small town of about 60,000 people, but an ever-growing one culturally. The chamber orchestra is a very fine group and a musical highlight in my life, mostly due to the opportunity to play with many excellent area musicians, but also largely because of the feature opportunity it has become for me, such as playing Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #2, the world premiere of Robert Bradshaw's Sonata for trumpet and strings, and in this past season Sperger's Concerto in D for corno da caccia. I joined the orchestra in its third season, although off the top of my head I'm not sure at this point how many years that has been. We're not the busiest group in the area, but are dedicated to remaining one of the finest.

I did L'Histoire last year, C trumpet for the majority of the work, D TRUMPET for the Devil's Dance...that arpeggio is quite easy then (Bb-G-E-C-E-G-Bb).

Good luck!!

Yes the D makes it easy. The D also works nicely on the Music to Scene II.
