| Piano User | Schott got back to my inquiry today. The study scores for Mysteries of the Macabre are not available right now. However, they did offer to send me a conductor's score and a preliminary copy of the edition for soprano and piano for a very reasonable price. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Matthew, Wonderful. Seriously. . . create your own setting, play it until you get tired of having exclusivity over it, and then gain permission and publish it yourself. It's a worthy project, both short and long term. We are what we play, and we should only be performing music that absolutely turns us on. Best, EC |

| Piano User | Look what our friends at Schott did: http://www.schott-music.com/shop/1/show,38614.html I've contacted them and they said it will be widely available by the end of the year and you can already order a preliminary copy. Now, (and this may just be the pessimistic side of me speaking) doesn't it seem ironic that this piece has been around and fairly widely known for almost twenty years, but they just decided to publish two new editions of the it about two months after the composer's death (there are MANY other editions that they just decided to publish)? Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited about the new publication. What I don't like is the (mostly correct) assumption on the part of the publishers that Ligeti's music will become more widely known, performed, and, transitively, purchased merely because he is no longer living. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Matthew, There's no better way for a composer to get hot than to die. I certainly wouldn't mind being the Executor of his estate (!) The upside, naturally, is that Ligeti's a BIG name and this will be a noted addition to our repertoire. Thanks for bringing this to our attention...another example of the value, however small, of TrumpetMaster. Now, if only a few conductors would get hot (chuckling softly) EC ps: re-reading my initial post on this subject -- this should tell everyone to take what I say with a grain of salt. . .
