Re: McGill University

TMers,

While digging through some old topics I found the post made last April below. It might give some of you who are looking at McGill an idea of what we're up to up there...

Best,
EC

*********

TMers,

For those of you within reasonable driving distance of Montreal, there are four upcoming programs of great interest at McGill that will successfully (knock wood) blend a wide variety of older and modern music -- a hot topic in recent threads here. Questions or comments?

Best,
EC

Matt,

regarding the audition. I know Ed said he'd post the exact date, but it's usually the last week or two of February on the thursday or friday. sadly, it's during the break week so you won't see the school in session but some students will still be there. cheers.

As a former alumni I have to add that for trumpet players McGill offers the best of everything. In addition to a tremendous brass program you have the flexibility of participating in the Jazz program either full time or playing in the ensembles. When I was there 87-92 I was enrolled in the Jazz program but participated in brass ensembles, symphonic band and orchestra, vice versa a certain Jens Lindemann was involved with the jazz band and some combos. His final recital featured a concerto , sonata etc... but he finished with a wicked Harry James tribute and closed with My Funny Valentine accompanied with jazz singer Denzal Sinclaire! Being a trumpet player means also finding gigs so the interaction between departments is great! Lots of opportunities and sharing of ideas. Finally on top of being one of the best music programs tuition is cheap!!! and cost of living also! So enroll, Montreal is a great city!!!

UCLA Music receives $30 million

UCLA music has received a $30 million endowment from noted trumpet player, artist and philanthropist, Herb Alpert. We will now be called the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.

Audition dates for next year's trumpet studio are February 2 and February 9, 2008. Application dealines are December 1 although some late applications will be accepted.

Hope to hear from you if you are interested in studying with me in Los Angeles.

Re: McGill University

FWIW I had a student last year almost go to McGill because he loved the music program so much! He ended going to Stanford (future president, trust me!) but he was really close to going to McGill.

The trumpet concerts the Ed holds are something else, and I've heard some of them on CD. wow.

Just thought I'd pop this back up as a few of my students are knee-deep in applications right now!
