mazzrick, Ed, etal

So does one process the CD and trumpet through a digital or analog mixer? I guess that is what I was trying to say when I said "Pro Tools". I assumed he was using max/msp or some experimental IRCAM program in development. Also when it is performed, or when you performed it, was it mixed quadrophic per instructions in the bande diagram?

I do have to agree about archaic electronic sounds(and this was made in 95!!). I have this piece composed by Brian Israel which has a really archaic electronic part, but it was composed in the late 70s early 80s in the lab at Cornell. Maybe I'll send a copy to Ed, it's a gaudy piece....In the good way.

Re: Metallics by Maresz

Ed,

I did check out the piece and it is pretty cool. I don't have a lot of experience with trumpet and tape (one of the endless amounts of things I need to work on), but this seems cool. Does the trumpet player play into a microphone with distortion during any of this, or is most of it on the tape?

Charlie,

I'd love to have it, if you have time. My address is the same and thanks in advance.

I believe that the CD playback is in stereo, not 4.1. Matt can confirm this if he's still watching this thread.

Scott,

The soloist can play into a mic, if (s)he wishes, to create an optimal blend with the taped part. There are no effects on the solo part, however. All of the shadings are done by the player, not the played into...

Best,
EC

Re: Metallics by Maresz

There are actually two CD playback files that go along with the piece, one is stereo (2 channel) and the other is in 8 channel playback surround. I don't personally have the 8 channel one, but I know it is available. When I played the piece with Digital Composition Studio tech guys from Mcgill doing the electronics, they used the 8 channel version.
