You had to have a big name mentor or you could forget about a major gig. I don't recall Gil auditioning against anyone. He was Krauss' number one student and everyone knew it. | Piano User | Re: Musical Chairs I like the idea of giving some younger players a shot in the big orchestras. I hope things work out for Gareth Flowers in San Francisco. I heard him play in Denver in 2004 and he was an excellent player then. I can't imagine what three more years of study have done for him. Now if we could just get some younger people on the podium (applause to L.A.). Who knows better how to reach young people than, well, young people? |
